Ovulation induction or Simple ovarian stimulation |
 |
When indicated, this method consists of
giving the woman medical treatment, either pills or injections,
or a combination of both in order to stimulate her ovaries to
produce more than one egg as usually occurs.
To ensure that an adequate response is
obtained, follow up is usually done by ultrasound exam and
hormonal blood tests. When the eggs reach maturity, the woman
will be given an injection to trigger ovulation and will be
asked to have a timed intercourse in order to increase her
chances of getting pregnant.
This is the method with the least
intervention but has the drawback of having modest success
rates.
